Lead Consultant Graham Mylward

I have made significant contributions to road safety, particularly in supporting older drivers. My expertise, built up over many years as a driver training professional and a Road Safety Officer for a local Authority, has enabled me to advise, train or assess a wide range of ages and skill levels spanning from those who are starting out in driving to those at the end of their safe driving careers.

My interest in understanding the psychology and science behind the driving risk has encouraged me to constantly update my experience in order to advise others.

My notable achievements include:

•Operating the Driver Skills Scheme 60+: Since joining Hampshire County Council’s Road Safety Team in 2008, I managed this program, until retirement from the role in 2025, focusing on enhancing the driving skills and safety of drivers aged 60 and above.

• Collaborating with Healthcare Professionals: I have developed a service which advises doctors on patients’ driving capabilities. This collaboration assists healthcare providers in making informed decisions regarding patients’ fitness to drive.

• Contributing to National Initiatives: I have played a pivotal role in the development of 'The Ageing Driver', a national training course for Driving Instructors. This project aimed to enhance driving instructors’ understanding of challenges faced by older drivers, thereby improving the quality of support available to this demographic.

• Engaging in Public Awareness Efforts: I have appeared on platforms like the BBC’s One Show, conducting driving appraisals for public figures to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining driving skills among older adults. I have also made further videos about assessing Older Drivers for BBC Breakfast and the BBCStories website.

Through these initiatives, I have significantly advanced driver safety and education, particularly for older drivers in Hampshire, reflecting my passion and dedication to road safety and community well-being.

Senior Consultant Jane Holt

Jane Holt DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Grade A

Jane has worked in the mature driver sector since July 2015, working as an Assessor for Hampshire County Council’s 60 Plus Skills Scheme.  Up until August 2025, Jane has conducted more than 1000 driver assessments, meeting clients at their homes and using their own car for the assessment.

In more recent years her involvement in driving assessments for for drivers with medical conditions such as Dementia, Parkinson's and Stroke has increased.  Jane has a wealth of experience supporting drivers with these medical conditions, where driving is becomming a potential problem. This support helps them to make safe decisions about the future of their driving and, when it’s finally time to hang the car keys up for good, assisting drivers and their families with alternatives.

Jane has also supported those drivers who volunteer to be assessed, who are often very safe and sensible about their driving patterns. She is experienced and knowledgeable enough to spot any warning signs in a persons driving which might suggest a deterioration in their cognitive abilities.  She can then signpost them to the appropriate service to help them retain their future independence.

Jane has personal experience of being involved with family members diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Vascular Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia and is a Dementia Friend.

Jane is passionate about her work and having recently moved to Chidham, near Chichester, she is now keen to expand the locality within which she operates, to give drivers in this area the same opportunities afforded to those residents in East Hampshire which she has previously covered.

Jane drives an Electric Nissan Leaf and is also keen to help mature drivers who may be interested in changing safely to an Electric Vehicle.  She offers tuition to support them in their transition and to ensure they know all the key features of their new vehicle.

Wider Experience

Besides making various videos for BBC, I have presented at road safety conferences and taken part in developing and publishing national driver training courses and reports on older drivers.
